Description

Ambrosia Salad is a classic, sweet, and creamy fruit salad often served at holidays and gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can mandarin oranges, drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can fruit cocktail, drained
  • 1 cup miniature marshmallows
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, halved
  • 1 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt (for a lighter version)
  • 1/2 cup whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the drained crushed pineapple, mandarin oranges, fruit cocktail, miniature marshmallows, shredded coconut, and halved maraschino cherries.
  2. In a separate smaller bowl, whisk together the sour cream (or Greek yogurt) and thawed whipped topping until smooth.
  3. Pour the creamy mixture over the fruit and marshmallow mixture. Gently fold until all ingredients are well coated.
  4. If using, stir in the chopped pecans.
  5. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. Serve chilled.

Notes

  • Using Greek yogurt instead of sour cream will result in a lighter, tangier salad.
  • Refrigeration time is crucial for the flavors to fully develop.
  • Pecans are optional but add a nice crunch.
