Ambrosia Salad is a classic, sweet, and creamy fruit salad often served at holidays and gatherings.
Ingredients
- 1 (20 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
- 1 (15 ounce) can mandarin oranges, drained
- 1 (15 ounce) can fruit cocktail, drained
- 1 cup miniature marshmallows
- 1 cup shredded coconut
- 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, halved
- 1 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt (for a lighter version)
- 1/2 cup whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the drained crushed pineapple, mandarin oranges, fruit cocktail, miniature marshmallows, shredded coconut, and halved maraschino cherries.
- In a separate smaller bowl, whisk together the sour cream (or Greek yogurt) and thawed whipped topping until smooth.
- Pour the creamy mixture over the fruit and marshmallow mixture. Gently fold until all ingredients are well coated.
- If using, stir in the chopped pecans.
- Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
- Serve chilled.
Notes
- Using Greek yogurt instead of sour cream will result in a lighter, tangier salad.
- Refrigeration time is crucial for the flavors to fully develop.
- Pecans are optional but add a nice crunch.
