Description

A simple and delicious make-ahead breakfast featuring rolled oats, cocoa powder, and your choice of sweetener, soaked overnight for a creamy texture.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats (old-fashioned)
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1-2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder (to taste)
  • 1-2 tablespoons sweetener (maple syrup, honey, or granulated sugar)
  • 1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy, e.g., almond, soy)
  • Optional toppings: fruit, nuts, chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. In a jar or container with a lid, combine the rolled oats, chia seeds, cocoa powder, and sweetener.
  2. Pour in the milk. Stir well to combine all ingredients, making sure there are no clumps of cocoa powder or chia seeds at the bottom.
  3. Cover the jar and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, until the oats and chia seeds have absorbed the liquid and thickened.
  4. In the morning, stir the oats. If too thick, add a splash more milk to reach desired consistency.
  5. Add your favorite toppings and enjoy cold.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of cocoa powder and sweetener to your personal taste preference.
  • For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
  • If using non-dairy milk, ensure it’s one you enjoy the taste of, as it will be the primary liquid flavor base.
