Description

Crispy, golden-brown crab bites perfect as an appetizer or snack.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb real or imitation crab meat, flaked
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs (plus extra for coating)
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for shallow frying

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the flaked crab meat, 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, egg, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, and fresh parsley (if using).
  2. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Mix gently until just combined.
  3. Place the extra panko breadcrumbs for coating on a shallow plate.
  4. Shape the crab mixture into small, bite-sized balls or patties, roughly 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.
  5. Gently press each crab bite into the breadcrumbs, coating all sides.
  6. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. You only need about 1/4 inch of oil.
  7. Place your Crab Crunchies in the pan a few at a time, careful not to overcrowd.
  8. Cook each side for 3–4 minutes, until they’re a rich golden brown.
  9. Transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  10. Serve warm with your favorite dip, such as creamy ranch, tangy cocktail sauce, or a light lemon-garlic aioli.
  11. Garnish with fresh herbs or a squeeze of lemon juice for extra brightness (optional).

Notes

  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to achieve a crispy exterior.
  • Do not overcrowd the pan to ensure even cooking and browning.
  • These can be served with a variety of dipping sauces.
