Description

A rich and creamy hot chocolate made easily in a slow cooker, perfect for gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 6 cups milk (2% or whole)
  • 1.5 cups heavy whipping cream (or 1/2 pint)
  • 1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk (or 6 ounces/1/2 can)
  • 1-2 cups milk chocolate chips (or semi-sweet, or 1 cup semi-sweet chips plus 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt and cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine milk, heavy whipping cream, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and vanilla extract in a 5-quart crock pot (or larger if doubling).
  2. If using cocoa powder, whisk it in thoroughly to dissolve.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 1.5-2 hours, stirring occasionally with a whisk until the mixture is hot and chocolate chips are completely melted. (Do not recommend cooking on high heat).
  4. Once heated through and chocolate is melted, switch the slow cooker to the warm setting. Stir again before serving.
  5. Add a pinch of salt and cinnamon if desired.
  6. Garnish individual cups with whipped cream or marshmallows.

Notes

  • Do not recommend cooking on high heat.
  • Ensure cocoa powder is thoroughly whisked to avoid clumps.
  • Adjust the amount of chocolate chips to your preference.
  • For a richer flavor, consider using a combination of milk and semi-sweet chocolate chips.
