Description

A crispy twist on classic French toast! This Crunchy French Toast is dipped in cinnamon custard and coated with crushed cereal for an irresistible breakfast favorite.

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 thick slices of bread (Texas toast or artisan-style)
  • 2 heaping cups crispy rice cereal or crushed corn flakes

Instructions

  • 1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla until smooth.
  • 2. Lightly crush the cereal and place it in a shallow dish.
  • 3. Dip each bread slice into the custard mixture for 5 seconds per side.
  • 4. Coat each slice in crushed cereal, pressing gently to help it stick.
  • 5. Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and grease lightly.
  • 6. Cook bread slices for 3–4 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  • 7. Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Use day-old bread for best results—it holds up to the custard.
  • Crush cereal gently to maintain texture.
  • To keep warm, place cooked slices on a wire rack in a 250°F oven.
  • Reheat leftovers in a toaster or oven for crispiness.
  • Freezes well for up to 2 months.
