Description

Easy Crispy Honey Garlic Tofu is a flavorful vegetarian dish featuring crispy tofu cubes coated in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce, perfect for a quick and delicious meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 block (14-16 oz) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil (like vegetable or canola)
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
  • Optional garnishes: toasted sesame seeds, sliced green onions

Instructions

  1. After pressing your extra-firm tofu to remove excess moisture, cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until they are lightly and evenly coated. This helps achieve a crispy texture.
  3. Prepare the honey garlic sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and toasted sesame oil until well combined. Set aside.
  4. Heat 1 tablespoon of neutral oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the cornstarch-coated tofu to the hot skillet in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 5 minutes per side, flipping as needed, until the tofu is golden brown and crispy on all sides. You may need to do this in batches.
  6. Once the tofu is crispy, reduce the heat to medium. Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce over the tofu in the skillet.
  7. Simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring gently, until the sauce thickens and beautifully coats the tofu.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired.

Notes

  • Press the tofu for at least 15-20 minutes to remove excess water for better crispiness.
  • Use low-sodium soy sauce to control saltiness.
  • This recipe is vegetarian but not strictly vegan due to honey; substitute with maple syrup for vegan option.
