Description
Easy Crispy Honey Garlic Tofu is a flavorful vegetarian dish featuring crispy tofu cubes coated in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce, perfect for a quick and delicious meal.
Ingredients
- 1 block (14-16 oz) extra-firm tofu, pressed and cubed
- 2 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 tbsp neutral oil (like vegetable or canola)
- 1/3 cup honey
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tbsp soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tsp toasted sesame oil
- Optional garnishes: toasted sesame seeds, sliced green onions
Instructions
- After pressing your extra-firm tofu to remove excess moisture, cut it into 1-inch cubes.
- In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until they are lightly and evenly coated. This helps achieve a crispy texture.
- Prepare the honey garlic sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and toasted sesame oil until well combined. Set aside.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of neutral oil in a large non-stick skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the cornstarch-coated tofu to the hot skillet in a single layer, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Cook for about 5 minutes per side, flipping as needed, until the tofu is golden brown and crispy on all sides. You may need to do this in batches.
- Once the tofu is crispy, reduce the heat to medium. Pour the prepared honey garlic sauce over the tofu in the skillet.
- Simmer for 3-4 minutes, stirring gently, until the sauce thickens and beautifully coats the tofu.
- Serve hot, garnished with toasted sesame seeds and sliced green onions, if desired.
Notes
- Press the tofu for at least 15-20 minutes to remove excess water for better crispiness.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce to control saltiness.
- This recipe is vegetarian but not strictly vegan due to honey; substitute with maple syrup for vegan option.
