A simple and delicious meatloaf recipe that’s perfect for a weeknight meal.
Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup dried breadcrumbs
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- For the Topping:
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon white vinegar
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, milk, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, egg, 2 tablespoons of ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
- Mix the ingredients together with your hands until they are just combined, being careful not to overwork the mixture.
- Press the meat mixture into an ungreased 9×5-inch loaf pan or shape it into a loaf on a foil-lined baking sheet.
- In a small bowl, stir together the topping ingredients: ¼ cup ketchup, brown sugar, and vinegar.
- Spread this glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake for 55 to 65 minutes, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the center reads 160°F (71°C).
- Let the meatloaf stand for 10 minutes before slicing and serving to allow the juices to redistribute.
Notes
- Do not overmix the meat mixture, as this can result in a tough meatloaf.
- Using a meat thermometer is the most accurate way to ensure the meatloaf is cooked through.
- Letting the meatloaf rest before slicing helps to keep it moist.
