Description
A classic recipe for homemade chocolate chip cookies, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¾ cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
- In a large bowl, using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the softened butter with the granulated sugar and brown sugar until the mixture is pale and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
- Add the vanilla and the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Reduce the mixer speed to low and gradually add the flour mixture, mixing only until the flour is just incorporated. Do not overmix.
- Stir in the chocolate chips with a wooden spoon or spatula.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of the dough about 2 inches apart onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers look set but are still soft.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- For chewier cookies, use more brown sugar than granulated sugar.
- For crispier cookies, use more granulated sugar than brown sugar.
- You can substitute milk chocolate chips, dark chocolate chips, or white chocolate chips for semi-sweet chocolate chips.
- Add chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans for extra flavor and texture.
- Ensure butter is properly softened, not melted, for the best cookie texture.
