Description
A delicious twist on the classic Philly cheesesteak, these one-pan sloppy joes combine ground beef with sautéed onions, peppers, and mushrooms in a cheesy sauce, served on toasted brioche buns.
Ingredients
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 small yellow onion, finely diced
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
- 8 ounces brown mushrooms, minced
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 cup beef broth
- 8 ounces sliced Provolone cheese, chopped
- 6 brioche hamburger buns
Instructions
- In a large, heavy-bottomed skillet, brown the ground beef over medium-high heat. Allow it to develop a nice crust before breaking it apart. Continue cooking until evenly browned. Drain any excess fat and set the beef aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add the diced onion, green bell pepper, and minced mushrooms. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are tender and lightly caramelized.
- Return the browned ground beef to the skillet with the vegetables. Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and beef broth until smooth. Pour this mixture into the skillet. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened to your desired sloppy joe consistency.
- Remove the skillet from the heat. Gradually stir in the chopped Provolone cheese until it’s fully melted and incorporated into the meat mixture.
- Lightly toast your brioche hamburger buns. Spoon a generous amount of the cheesy Philly cheesesteak mixture onto each toasted bun. Serve immediately.
Notes
- This recipe is made in one pan for easy cleanup.
- Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content.
- Adjust cheese quantity for cheesier results.
