A simple and flavorful recipe for shredded chicken tacos, perfect for a quick weeknight meal.
Ingredients
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 1 cup salsa
- Warmed tortillas or taco shells
- Favorite toppings (e.g., shredded cheese, chopped lettuce, chopped tomato, sour cream)
Instructions
- Place the chicken breasts in a single layer in a pot or deep skillet. Cover with water and bring to a simmer. Cook until chicken is cooked through (Approx. 10-15 minutes).
- Transfer the chicken to a cutting board or bowl, and shred it with 2 forks.
- In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil and sauté the onion until it’s soft and translucent (3 minutes).
- Add the garlic, and sauté for 30 seconds.
- Add cumin, chili powder, and salt. Cook for 1 more minute to combine.
- Add salsa, and mix it in. If necessary, add a splash of water. Let it warm up.
- Add the shredded chicken to the sauce and mix it in.
- Simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Serve in warmed tortillas or taco shells with your favorite toppings.

- Ensure chicken is fully cooked before shredding.
- Adjust spices to your preference.
