Description

A simple and fun recipe for making sour, sweet, and fruity ‘Sour Patch Grapes’ that are frozen and taste like the popular candy.

Ingredients

  • 1.5-3 lbs seedless green grapes
  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (from about 1/2-1 lemon)
  • 2 teaspoons citric acid, divided into 1/2 tsp (optional, for extra sourness)
  • Assorted flavored Jell-O mix packets (3-ounce boxes) – e.g., pineapple, lime, cherry, orange, lemon
  • Parchment paper or silicone baking mat
  • Baking sheet

Instructions

  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set aside.
  2. Remove grapes from stems. Wash and dry the grapes thoroughly, ensuring they are damp but not dripping wet (this helps the powder stick).
  3. Pour fresh lemon juice over the grapes in a large mixing bowl. Toss with your hands to lightly coat all the grapes.
  4. Empty each Jell-O mix packet into its own small bowl or gallon-size resealable plastic bag. If using, add 1/2 teaspoon of citric acid to each bowl/bag and mix well.
  5. Divide the lemon-coated grapes among the bowls or bags, placing a handful in each. Seal the bags or bowls.
  6. Shake vigorously to coat the grapes completely and evenly with the Jell-O powder.
  7. Transfer the coated grapes to the prepared baking sheet, spreading them in a single layer without overlapping.
  8. Freeze for at least 2-3 hours or overnight until completely frozen and firm.
  9. Transfer to a sealed container or bag and enjoy directly from the freezer.

Notes

  • Ensure the grapes are thoroughly dried after washing, but still slightly damp, for the Jell-O powder to adhere properly.
  • Using citric acid will give the grapes an extra sour kick, similar to the candy.
  • Experiment with different Jell-O flavors to create a variety of tastes.
  • Store the frozen grapes in an airtight container or bag in the freezer to maintain their texture.
