A hearty and flavorful ground turkey chili recipe that’s easy to make and perfect for a comforting meal. This recipe is packed with vegetables, beans, and spices, making it a delicious and satisfying option.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1.5 pounds ground turkey lean
- 1 large onion chopped
- 2 bell peppers any color chopped
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes undrained
- 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans rinsed and drained
- 1 (15 ounce) can pinto beans rinsed and drained
- 1 (4 ounce) can chopped green chiles undrained
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth optional for thinner consistency
- Optional toppings: shredded cheese sour cream green onions tortilla chips
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook breaking it up until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess grease and remove turkey from pot. Set aside.
- Add chopped onion and bell peppers to the pot. Cook until softened about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Return the browned ground turkey to the pot. Stir in crushed tomatoes diced tomatoes tomato sauce kidney beans pinto beans and green chiles.
- Add chili powder ground cumin dried oregano and smoked paprika. Stir well to combine.
- Pour in broth if using. Bring the chili to a simmer then reduce heat to low cover and cook for at least 30 minutes (or longer for more developed flavor) stirring occasionally.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Serve hot with your favorite toppings like shredded cheese sour cream green onions or tortilla chips.
Notes
- For a spicier chili, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a diced jalapeƱo with the bell peppers.
- This chili can be made ahead of time and reheats well. The flavors often meld and improve overnight.
- If you prefer a thicker chili, omit the broth or reduce the amount.
- Feel free to add other vegetables like corn or zucchini.
