Description

A hearty and flavorful ground turkey chili recipe that’s easy to make and perfect for a comforting meal. This recipe is packed with vegetables, beans, and spices, making it a delicious and satisfying option.


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1.5 pounds ground turkey lean
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 bell peppers any color chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes undrained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can pinto beans rinsed and drained
  • 1 (4 ounce) can chopped green chiles undrained
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup chicken or vegetable broth optional for thinner consistency
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheese sour cream green onions tortilla chips


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook breaking it up until browned and no longer pink. Drain any excess grease and remove turkey from pot. Set aside.
  2. Add chopped onion and bell peppers to the pot. Cook until softened about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Return the browned ground turkey to the pot. Stir in crushed tomatoes diced tomatoes tomato sauce kidney beans pinto beans and green chiles.
  5. Add chili powder ground cumin dried oregano and smoked paprika. Stir well to combine.
  6. Pour in broth if using. Bring the chili to a simmer then reduce heat to low cover and cook for at least 30 minutes (or longer for more developed flavor) stirring occasionally.
  7. Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite toppings like shredded cheese sour cream green onions or tortilla chips.

Notes

  • For a spicier chili, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or a diced jalapeƱo with the bell peppers.
  • This chili can be made ahead of time and reheats well. The flavors often meld and improve overnight.
  • If you prefer a thicker chili, omit the broth or reduce the amount.
  • Feel free to add other vegetables like corn or zucchini.
