Description

A classic and flavorful meatloaf recipe with a sweet and tangy brown sugar glaze.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 0.5 cup breadcrumbs (plain or Panko)
  • 0.25 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
  • For the Meatloaf Glaze:
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl combine ground beef, egg, milk, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix gently with your hands until just combined. Do not overmix.
  3. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared loaf pan or on the baking sheet.
  4. For the glaze: In a small bowl whisk together ketchup, brown sugar, and Dijon mustard. Spread half of the glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and spread the remaining glaze over the meatloaf.
  7. Return to oven and bake for another 15-20 minutes or until an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) is reached.
  8. Remove from oven and let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Using 80/20 ground beef is recommended for a more moist and flavorful meatloaf.
  • Do not overmix the meatloaf mixture, as this can result in a tough texture.
  • Allowing the meatloaf to rest before slicing helps it hold its shape.
