Description

A simple and delicious recipe for classic chocolate chip cookie bars, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8×8 inch baking pan, or line with parchment paper leaving an overhang on the sides.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips by hand until evenly distributed.
  7. Press the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter).
  9. Let the cookie bars cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before cutting into squares. This is important for them to set properly.

Notes

  • Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting to ensure they set properly.
  • For richer flavor, use a combination of semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips.
  • Ensure butter is softened but not melted for best results when creaming.
