Description

An easy high-protein smash burger bowl featuring seared beef patties, fresh greens, roasted sweet potatoes, caramelized onions, avocado, and a special burger sauce.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 preferred for searing)
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups kale or iceberg lettuce, chopped
  • 1 cup roasted sweet potatoes, cubed
  • 1/2 yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 ripe avocado, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon dill pickle juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the sliced onions in a skillet with a touch of oil over medium heat until soft and browned, then set aside.
  2. Roll the ground beef into loose balls and season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. Heat a cast-iron skillet over medium-high heat. Place the beef balls in the pan and immediately press them flat with a heavy spatula.
  4. Sear for 2 to 3 minutes until a dark crust forms, flip the patties, and top with cheddar cheese to melt.
  5. In a small ramekin, whisk together the mayo, mustard, ketchup, and pickle juice to create your special burger sauce.
  6. Build your bowl by layering the greens and sweet potatoes, topping them with the chopped smash burger patties, caramelized onions, and avocado.
  7. Drizzle the special sauce over the top and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for the best searing and flavor.
  • Roasted sweet potatoes can be prepared in advance for quicker assembly.
  • This recipe is gluten-free due to no buns or bread.
