- 1.5 pounds ground beef
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1/4 cup ketchup plus more for topping
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, 1/4 cup ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined (do not overmix).
- Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a baking dish or on a baking sheet.
- Spread an additional layer of ketchup over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
- Let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Do not overmix the meatloaf mixture, as this can result in a tough meatloaf.
- Using a meat thermometer is the most accurate way to ensure the meatloaf is cooked through.
- For a slightly sweeter topping, you can mix ketchup with a little brown sugar and mustard.
