Description

A classic and simple meatloaf recipe that’s perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup ketchup plus more for topping
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, 1/4 cup ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined (do not overmix).
  3. Shape the mixture into a loaf and place it in a baking dish or on a baking sheet.
  4. Spread an additional layer of ketchup over the top of the meatloaf.
  5. Bake for 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  6. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Do not overmix the meatloaf mixture, as this can result in a tough meatloaf.
  • Using a meat thermometer is the most accurate way to ensure the meatloaf is cooked through.
  • For a slightly sweeter topping, you can mix ketchup with a little brown sugar and mustard.
