Description

A classic comfort food with a sweet and tangy maple glaze, this Maple Glazed Meatloaf is a family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or panko)
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • For the Glaze:
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a loaf pan or a baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, chopped onion, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and dried thyme. Use your hands to gently mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Overmixing can result in a tough meatloaf.
  3. Shape the meat mixture into a loaf and place it in the prepared loaf pan or on the baking sheet. If using a baking sheet, form it into a loaf shape, about 9×5 inches.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together all the glaze ingredients: ketchup, maple syrup, apple cider vinegar, and Dijon mustard.
  5. Spread about half of the glaze evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
  6. Bake for 45 minutes. Remove from oven, spread the remaining glaze over the meatloaf, and return to the oven for another 15-20 minutes, or until an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) is reached.
  7. Let the meatloaf rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving. This allows the juices to redistribute.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce to the meat mixture.
  • If you don’t have apple cider vinegar, regular white vinegar can be used in a pinch.
  • Ensure the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for food safety.
